When Cathy Westbury of St. Louis wakes up each morning, she works to fulfill her personal mission statement. Whether she's helping her students, traveling overseas to Ethiopia or raising funds to educate underprivileged children, Cathy lives and teaches the "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People," principles developed by best-selling author Stephen Covey.

Southeast Missouri State University junior Morgan Riley of Bernie, Mo., has been named a Golden Opportunity Scholar and will attend mentoring conferences Nov. 3-6 through the Golden Opportunity Scholars Institute.

Zach Young of Jackson, Mo., who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in technology management with an emphasis in computer and multimedia graphics from Southeast Missouri State University, won first place in the wheelchair division and fifth place overall in the GO! St. Louis marathon.

Savanna Maue of Breese, Ill., who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication with an emphasis in journalism from Southeast Missouri State University, spent a month studying abroad in Armagh, Northern Ireland, through ieiMedia's Armagh Project.

Though teaching others is something Keidra "Pie" Boaze of St. Louis knew she wanted to do in her life, she didn't know teaching adult literacy classes through Advance Memphis would become her career. Keidra, a Southeast Missouri State University alumna, works in a poverty-stricken neighborhood helping adults advance their educations through Advance Memphis.

Southeast Missouri State University alumna Lynne Dozier recently published her first full-length writing manual "The Writer's Voice: 18 Lessons to Improve Writing."

Will Abbott of Trenton, Ill., is interning at Dell in Round Rock, Texas, as a fitness trainer.

Brianna Dewitt of Dexter, Mo., recently served as a teaching assistant with Dr. Wayne Bowen in a modern European civilization class he taught. She also is working with Bowen on a course redesign project.

Kevin Taylor of St. Charles, Mo., who is pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree in historic preservation, is interning for the summer with Downtown Washington Inc.

Kelsey Magee of St. Louis is a Southeast Missouri State University alumna who earned an education degree with a major in exceptional child education emphasizing in elementary education. She recently received a position working for the Special School District of St. Louis County, a job she has always wanted.

Col. Kimberlee Joos trains new members of the Air Force as commander of the 17th Training Wing. After graduating from Southeast Missouri State University in 1991 with an undergraduate degree in psychology, she has since progressed through the Air Force ranks. Joos, who was promoted to the rank of Colonel in September 2011, assumed command of the 17th Training Wing and installation commander of Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas in a ceremony on May 29.

September Hinkle of Fredricktown, Mo., an alumna of Southeast Missouri State University who is going to pursue her Master of Arts in English from Southeast in the fall, taught English to students in Japan last spring.
