Southeast Student Shelby Melton to Participate in CSIS Trip in Washington, D.C.

2016 Feb 19

Southeast Missouri State University student Shelby Melton of Auburn, IL, has been selected to participate in a four-day seminar during spring break week March 13-18 at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C.

CSIS is a strategic think tank whose scholars and board members provide advice to the federal government on significant social, economic, environmental and political global issues. Students at Southeast enroll in a course that allows them to work throughout the week with researchers and consultants who advise national leaders in the top levels of government as they develop policies and strategies that affect the United States and the global community.

Melton is a junior pursuing a degree in social work and a minor in child development: trauma and outcomes. She serves as president of the Social Work Club and Treasurer of Quiz Bowl, has participated in President's Leadership Academy and Emerging Leaders and is a member of the Jane Stephens Honors Program. Her career aspirations include becoming a school social worker. Melton is the daughter of Russ Melton of Auburn, Illinois, and Conni Melton of Auburn, Illinois, and is a 2013 graduate of Auburn High School.
