Southeast Student Alandra St. Clair To Intern in Florida at Disney World

2013 Jul 30

Alandra St. Clair of St. Louis, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in psychology, will spend the upcoming fall semester interning with Disney at its amusement park, Disney World, in Orlando, Fla.

She will work in various positions beginning in August. She will return in January 2014.

"I believe that this internship will contribute to my future success greatly," Alandra said. "The networking aspect will be the biggest contribution to my future. I am extremely excited to meet people from around the world and learn about different cultures. I believe that interning for Disney will be a truly unique experience that I will not regret."

This is Alandra's first internship. She works on campus in the Admissions Office as the multicultural recruitment team leader and as a first-step orientation leader.

"Both of my on campus jobs have allowed me to network. I am also granted the wonderful opportunity to meet perspective Southeast students and give them a student's point of view about college life," Alandra said.

She said Southeast has helped her build relationships with others, which she enjoys.

"So far my favorite moments at Southeast have been the moments that allow me to network with leaders on campus and around the Cape Girardeau area," Alandra said.

Alandra loves everything about her major at Southeast.

"Everything about psychology is so intriguing to me. If I had to pinpoint something that excites me the most about this field it would be seeing how the mind works on a daily basis. I love learning about new theories, but being able to apply those theories to people on a day to day basis will be amazing," Alandra said.

Studying has helped expand her knowledge. Being involved at Southeast has helped develop her as a person and professionally.

"I believe that Southeast has contributed to my success in and out of the classroom greatly," Alandra said. "There are several things on my resume that I believe make me stand out among my peers. Most of those things I accomplished while attending Southeast."

Alandra wants to further her education by pursuing a master's degree in child development. She loves attending college in Cape Girardeau.

"I absolutely love Southeast Missouri State University," Alandra said.

When she isn't studying, she likes to hang out with her friends and visit the local shops in downtown Cape Girardeau.

"There are several cool vintage shops in downtown Cape that I enjoy," Alandra said.

She said she likes to volunteer and help at-risk young people. She is a big sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

"My little one and I have so much fun when we are together," Alandra said.

In addition to volunteering, she loves to travel, especially to New York City. She went there for spring break and visited many historic landmarks, which she said she had been seeing on television for years. Next year, she plans to visit New Orleans, and she said she will be going on a Caribbean cruise as well.

"It [New York City] was everything I thought it would be," Alandra said.

With her coursework, activities and responsibilities, Alandra is a busy college student. In order to accomplish everything, she has had to learn to manage her time.

"I believe the most effective advice I can pass on to future Southeast students would be perfecting their time management skills," Alandra said. "As clich? as it may sound, time management is one of the most valuable resources a college student can have. Most days I have my time planned down to the hour, just to ensure I get everything done that needs to be done that day."
