Nelson Mwangi Appointed as Presidential Ambassador at Southeast Missouri State University

Nelson Mwangi of Nairobi, Kenya, has been appointed by Dr. Kenneth W. Dobbins, president of Southeast Missouri State University, to serve as a Presidential Ambassador at the University in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Presidential Ambassadors are student representatives of the president of the University. The Ambassadors assist the president and his staff in greeting and assisting visiting guests and dignitaries, serving at presidential functions and promoting good will to all those outside the University.

Mwangi is a junior at Southeast. During his first year at Southeast, Mwangi was a first year senator for the student government, a Funding Board member and a member of Global Voices. During his second year, he was Vice President of the International Student Organization, Rules Committee Chair and a member of the Redhawks Rugby Club. This year, Mwangi is a member of the Presidental Leadership Academy. He has received the First Year Student Award, Student Life Award, Leadership Award, Towers West Resident of the Year, and the Sheila E. Pinckney Chapter of National Residence Hall Honorary. He received the William T. Gamewell Scholarship to attend Southeast.

Mwangi is the son of Ayub Mwangi Gichengo and Mary Nyakinyua of Nairobi.
