LeGrand Appointed Southeast Student Regent

Luke LeGrand of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, has been appointed by Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, to serve as the student representative to the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents.

LeGrand's term will begin immediately upon his confirmation by the Missouri Senate, and will run for two years through spring 2020.

The student representative is a non-voting member of the Board.

"We are extremely pleased to have Luke joining the Board of Regents as the student representative," said Dr. Carlos Vargas, president of Southeast Missouri State University. "He brings valuable student leadership to the Board, having served in a number of key roles in Student Government, Interfraternity Council and as a member of his fraternity. He is an outstanding young man, and we look forward to him bringing the student voice to the Board. He will represent the Southeast student body extremely well."

LeGrand, a junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an accounting major and Spanish minor, is a participant in the Jane Stephens Honors Program and has been named five consecutive semesters to the Dean's List for academic achievement at Southeast. In addition, LeGrand is treasurer of the Student Government Association, a Presidential Ambassador and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, having served as part treasurer and internal executive board member and secretary/scribe. He also has been an Interfraternity Council/Judicial Board member and is president of the Lutheran Chapel of Hope, a student employee in the Office of the President at Southeast and an accounting intern with the Kerber, Eck, and Breckel accounting firm in Cape Girardeau.

A graduate of Saxony Lutheran High School and Trinity Lutheran Grade School, both in Cape Girardeau, LeGrand is an Eagle Scout and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Brass Instrument Ensemble. He serves as a City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation referee and a farm hand with LeGrand Brothers Agriculture Service of Kelso, Missouri. He also has been a marketing assistant with Southeast's Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts.
