Clayton Evans Awarded MCA Scholarship for Spring 2015

2014 Dec 12

Clayton Evans, a Southeast Missouri State University student from Fenton, Missouri, has been awarded a Missouri Concrete Association (MCA) scholarship for the spring 2015 semester.

The MCA Scholarship program provides a $500 scholarship to Southeast and the Department of Polytechnic Studies to be awarded to a student seeking a degree in preparation for careers in the "ready mixed concrete" and related industries. Sophomores with at least 30 credit hours completed in this area are eligible.

Evans wrote a letter explaining why he should receive the $500 MCA scholarship and how his potential career relates to the ready mixed concrete or related industries. The letter also explains how the scholarship will help him read his career goals.

Evans is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science in technology management with options in construction management and design, and facilities management and sustainability. After graduation, he plans to work with his father, who owns a construction company.

"I have been exposed to construction my entire life. My father owns a construction business in St. Louis and has worked with several residential and some commercial projects," Evans wrote in his letter of application. "My goal is to complete this degree and partner with my father's established business to continue to grow and expand more into the commercial industry such as strip malls, government projects, office buildings, apartment buildings and gas/convenient stores."

He has learned that concrete is a large part of the construction industry, including concrete footings, foundations, streets, driveways and sidewalks.

He has learned construction building codes for different applications, measuring, linear feet, yards and projections. He added that the scholarship would help him continue to pursue his degree.
